In Conversation: Patterns

15 - 21 January 2026

Streatham Hill Project Space, ASC Gallery, London

In Conversation; Patterns is a collaborative group exhibition developed from an ongoing artistic dialogue between two painters, HaYoung Kim and Heena Kim. For this exhibition, as the third dialogue of their shared research practice, the concept expands into an exhibition format, responding to shared themes of patterns - visual, emotional, and lived. The exhibition explores how repeated forms, gestures, and rhythms emerge through their conversation, exchange, and shared experience.

The exhibition brings together two paintings and a series of works on paper, reflecting different rhythms of artistic exchange. The paintings by Heena act as anchors within the space, while the works on paper by HaYoung function as more immediate, responsive gestures, like notes passed between artists.

Together, these formats create a balanced conversation between reflection and spontaneity, showing how ideas move, pause, and evolve through the work process.

Heena, a visual artist and mother of two, lives and works in London. HaYoung moves between South Korea and the UK, balancing her work with family life in London. For both, navigating different countries, schedules, and responsibilities has shaped not just how they live - but how they create.

Motherhood, with its pauses, delays, and unexpected interruptions, could have slowed their artistic journeys. Instead, it became part of their story. In Conversation: Patterns is their exploration of how art can continue - quietly, persistently, and meaningfully - even when time, space, and distance are limited. It’s a celebration of creativity that finds a way, no matter the obstacles.
