Studio Celebration

Celebrate a Special Day, the Artistic Way!

Big and noisy parties aren’t for everyone. Some children prefer to celebrate in a calm, creative environment, spending meaningful time with a small group of friends. This is not a traditional party with food and entertainment, but a calm, creative experience for children who love making art.

Celebrate in The Blue Studio - an intimate art studio designed for small and thoughtfully curated gatherings of up to six people (Age 8+). This cosy studio setting allows each child to receive personal guidance while exploring real art materials and techniques. Calm and focused, it’s a meaningful alternative to busy party venues - where every guest creates a special artwork to take home.

"It was really fun and we made lots of different kinds of art." Scout, Age 9

"I had lots of fun making art and using materials I don't have at home." Emma, Age 9

"We tried lots of different things like printmaking, collage, and other fun art activities. My favourite part was printmaking." Lyra, Age 11

At The Blue Studio, we craft unique art gatherings that focus on making, exploring, and enjoying the creative process together. The special day is designed as a relaxed social experience, where children can connect, experiment with materials. Our gatherings are ideal for creative children who enjoy art, curiosity, and hands-on making. Each session is crafted and guided by an artist in an environment for free-flowing creativity. All materials are included.

Suitable for

+ Children and teens aged 8+

Celebration options include:

+ Storytelling Zine Adventure: Let their imagination run wild as they design and create their own bold, eye-catching zine. A zine is a small, self-published 8-page mini magazine or booklet, and making one is a fun, hands-on DIY project. Explore printmaking, tape, and collage to create layered pages full of character, colour, and personality.
+ Dancing Plaster Sculptures: Turn up the energy and sculpt to the rhythm! Shape, build, and experiment with plaster to create expressive three-dimensional forms. A fun, hands-on experience where movement and making come together.

What will happen on the day

Arrival & welcome
Children will be welcomed into The Blue Studio and given time to settle in, meet each other, and get comfortable in the space. We’ll begin with a short and friendly introduction to the session and the materials we’ll be using.

Creative making
The main part of the session is a guided art-making experience with an artist, exploring materials, techniques, discovering creative ideas at their own pace, with a focus is on deeper experimentation, building confidence, and enjoying the creative process with friends.

”Meet the artist”
There will be time to pause, look at what everyone has made, and share ideas if they’d like - always optional and relaxed.

Wrap-up & collection
At the end of the session, children will pack up their artwork to take home. Collection will be coordinated with the hosting parents.

FAQs

+ Can parents stay during the session?
To keep the space calm and comfortable for everyone, the studio is set up for children only. Due to the small size of the space, parents are kindly asked not to stay during the session.

+ How does drop-off and collection work?
Drop-off and collection will be arranged by the hosting parent. Clear timings will be shared in advance to ensure a smooth start and end to the gathering.

+ Do we need to decorate the space?
No, the studio will be thoughtfully decorated by the artist to suit the creative session. Decorations are kept minimal to support a calm, art-focused atmosphere.

+ What should participants wear?
Art can be messy. Please dress them in comfortable clothes that can handle paint or materials. We will provide an apron if anyone needs.

+ Can I bring cake or food?
Our studio tables are usually full of art materials and creations during the session. To help children focus and enjoy a free and creative experience, we’re unable to accommodate food or cakes. See our celebration ideas for tasty treats and fun extras below.

+ Can sessions be adapted for different ages or interests?
Absolutely. Each gathering is adapted to the age group and interests of the children attending.

A few extra celebration ideas from us

The special art experience will already make the celebration feel full, joyful and memorable. However, if you’d like to continue the festivities after your studio gathering, here are a few lovely and easy ideas nearby:

Picnic in the Park >>>
Why not take the party outdoors? The Recreation Ground in Upper Norwood is just around the corner and perfect for a relaxed picnic with cake and party food. You could also hop on a short bus ride to Crystal Palace Park (with its fantastic playground), the beautiful Rookery Gardens & cafe, or Streatham Common. It’s a simple way to let the children run around and enjoy more time together.

Lunch or Dinner at a Local Cafe or Restaurant >>>
Crystal Palace has plenty of child-friendly cafes and restaurants along the high street, which locals often call the Triangle. You could enjoy a gentle walk through Westow Park on the way (with a likely playground stop!) or take a short bus ride straight to the high street. It’s an easy option if you’d prefer someone else to take care of the food.

Cake & Food at Home >>>
For a more relaxed and cosy finish to the day, you might choose to host guests at home. While we know this can mean a little extra organisation for parents, children often feel wonderfully comfortable and excited welcoming their friends into their own space - a lovely way to round off a special celebration.
